Since 2004 when the Natural Health Product Regulations were introduced, natural health products have been increasingly threatened. The new Regulations were Health Canada’s response to consumer demands for the government to “protect” their access to natural health products. The Regulations have had the opposite effect. To “legally” sell a health product the new regulations impose a licensing requirement. The problem is that 60% of license applications have failed; these have been the “easy” applications.
Under the regulations, natural health products (NHP’s) are considered a sub-category of drugs and must undergo pre-market evaluation and receive product licenses from the Natural Health Product Directorate (NHPD) to be marketed in Canada.
Canadians have lost over half of their trusted natural health products not because of safety….quality…or labeling…but because they lack the human trials required by their classification as DRUGS. Forcing NHP’s into the drug category ultimately ensured that thousands of these products would find it impossible to comply.
Under Bill C-36 Health Canada can seize property without court supervision; there doesn’t have to be a safety risk. Health Canada can seize your business and never have to report it to a Court. Health Canada’s unelected, untrained Health Inspectors can be on your property without a warrant. Under the New “Administrative” penalties, a Minister can order a recall without going to Court.
The NHPPA has publicly opposed two assaults on our rights and freedoms. First, the ongoing drive to remove NHP’s from the market through NHP Regulations (which fall under the Food and Drugs Act) in force since 2004; and second the immediate removal of the rule of law (whereby permission would need to be granted by an independent court) now, this rule of law is undermined in the area of consumer products, heralded by the passing of Bill C-36. Different issues, yet both have their root cause in unconstitutional power handed to Health Canada. The Province is responsible for health matters, but the Federal Government is getting completely involved.
After the largest recent citizen movement in Canadian history at increasing our access to natural health products, Canadians should be enjoying increasing access. The Canadian Government is not listening to the 71% (or 24 million Canadians) that rely on Natural Health Products for their health, wellbeing, and life! Without natural health products you will be forced to use toxic pharmaceuticals.
In Canada, our current vision of health care “is not care for the healthy,” it is “care for the sick.” and the pharmaceutical industries maintain a steady monopoly on your health…which at its very core…is not designed to help maintain good health. The responsibility to maintain our health falls squarely on our shoulders.
Each year in Canada, 24,000 people die due to preventable drug interactions. More people die each year due to peanut and shellfish allergies. In contrast, there has never been a recorded death involving a natural health product.
Are you “free” when it says that the Government has the right to nourish ourselves or our children?
Is it “safe” to take Natural Health Products off the market? Is it the not-so-secret agenda of conventional medicine to push patented chemical medications on to the entire population, whether people need those drugs or not.
The end game for big pharma is to push their agenda to the point where people are “convinced” they need to consume pharmaceuticals like vitamins as if they were some how deficient in the world’s number one selling statin drug Lipitor, or deficient in blood pressure drugs.
Why is natural and complimentary health care under sustained attack by the medical establishment, the pharmaceutical industries and regulators? The answer to that is, more and more people are taking a proactive approach to their health, instead of a reactive approach, for themselves and their families.
If you don’t agree on what the problem is…we will “never” agree on the solution! The problem lies with the collective hierarchy, the lack of “principally based thinking”, “the greed and corruption” that is needed to sustain our present system of health.
We have been losing our freedoms due to the collusion and totalitarianism of federal regulators. We have been losing our freedoms due to the collectivist strategies that have been so carefully set in motion for decades upon decades. Under the shroud of Government control, Canadians are losing their freedom of choice where their health is concerned.
